LIVERPOOL ANCESTORS

Welcome to Liverpool Ancestors, on this web site you can find lots of information to help you trace your roots in Liverpool, and  Merseyside. The Alphabetical Index has over 30,500 names inscribed on Memorials in Liverpool Cemetery, also known as Anfield Cemetery, they are all listed on this website. Every name in this index has a photograph of the memorial inscription, and these photographs can be requested for a small fee.  If you are not sure that it is the correct person, please see request form.

Also listed are details of years of records held for all Church, Churchyard,  Burial grounds and cemeteries in Liverpool. (see left)

Gravestones are a wonderful source of information to any family history researcher. Mother in Laws' , brother in laws', nieces, nephews grandchildren,  are sometimes  all in the same grave, helping you build on the information you already have. So if there is another surname mentioned on a name you are looking for- Don't be put off, it could still be your family member! The other name could be the elusive maiden name or even grandparent you have been searching for. You should   think of any  cemetery as a 'goldmine' of information for anyone looking for their ancestors, you would not believe how much information is given on some memorials. (see quotes

As well as the free information sheet, there are also links to many other web sites which should help you on your way to finding out all about YOUR Liverpool ancestry.  A research service, burial search, and census search are  also available, as well as the  free information sheet.

Please send an e mail to shizzzyb@liverpool-ancestors.co.uk with FREE INFORMATION in the subject line. Thanks

My Mission

To photograph every memorial in every cemetery in Liverpool and make them available to everyone on the internet.

 Profile

After researching my own family history for quite a few years, I became  a member of the Liverpool mailing list on rootsgen, I offered to look for names on graves for anyone who was interested,   while walking with Keizer, my dog, in Anfield Cemetery. Within a week or so,  had over 200 names to look for.

300 handwritten memorial inscriptions later , thought there had to be an easier way, and bought my first digital camera (now on my fourth) . Then had to think of what to do with hundreds, then thousands of  photo's, and then came the start of the index. 3 years later there are over 30,100 names, and about twice that many (maybe even more) still to go on. Anfield is a huge cemetery, a two mile walk around the perimeter. With the new format I am able to index and publish all names faster than before so bookmark this site and keep coming back as many more names will be added faster than they were previously.

Member of Liverpool & South West Lancashire Family History Society. Volunteer in Liverpool Register Office. Long time visitor to Liverpool Records Office, and perpetual visitor to Anfield Cemetery. Indexer for FreeBMD, and 1891 census.

Quotes from happy customers

My partner in crime, Keizer (a staffordshire bull terrier) is now back to his normal self, and is now walking in Anfield Cemetery every day, which is wonderful, and hopefully many more names will be added to the index in the near future.

My dream would be to have teams of people photographing and indexing and have every memorial in the UK, listed online.
